Halloween Safety Tips for a Fun & Spooky Season
Halloween is almost here! Between costumes, trick-or-treating, pumpkins and LOTS of candy, it’s one of the most fun nights of the year. A little planning can help make sure everyone has a safe and happy Halloween! 🧡
Here are a few simple reminders before your little ghosts and goblins head out:
👻 Be Seen
Add reflective tape, glow sticks or lights to costumes and treat bags. Carry a flashlight and stick to well-lit areas whenever possible.
🚗 Watch for Cars
Use sidewalks and crosswalks, look both ways before crossing and remind kids not to dart between parked cars. Drivers should take it extra slow in neighborhoods where trick-or-treaters are out.
🎭 Keep Costumes Safe
Make sure costumes fit properly and aren’t long enough to cause trips or falls. Masks should allow kids to see clearly, and face paint can be a great alternative.
🍬 Check the Candy
Before the kids dig in, have an adult look through their treats. Toss anything that is open, damaged, unwrapped or just doesn’t look right. Be especially mindful of food allergies.
🏠 Stick Together
Younger children should trick-or-treat with a trusted adult. Older kids heading out with friends should have a planned route, stay together and know what time they’re expected home.
📱 Have a Plan
Make sure older kids have a charged phone and know who to call if plans change or they need help.
🐾 Don’t Forget the Pets
Doorbells, costumes and lots of visitors can be stressful for pets. Keep them somewhere safe and comfortable, and remember to keep Halloween candy—especially chocolate—out of their reach.
🎃 Most importantly… HAVE FUN!
Halloween should be filled with costumes, laughter, neighborhood fun and maybe just a little too much candy. 🍭👻
